Please write a 450–600 words reply to Quantitative research discussion. Each thread and each reply must include at least 2 scholarly sources in addition to the textbook and relevant scriptural integration. All citations and references must be in current APA format. TEXTBOOK IS Melnyk, B., & Fineout-Overholt, E. (2015). Evidence-based practice in nursing and healthcare: A guide to best practice (4th ed.). Philadelphia, PA: Wolters Kluwer. ISBN: 9781496384539.

Quantitative research on the other hand is number based. The decision to go with a quantitative or qualitative design depends on the research question asked. The general appraisal overview (GAO) is very essential to the quantitative research. The GAO includes the purpose of the study, the independent variable, the dependent variable and the extraneous variables and the quantitative research examines the relationship between all these variables (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The independent variable refers to the variables that the researcher manipulates to create or get a reaction. The dependent variable is the outcome that is measured as a result of manipulating the independent variable. The extraneous variable refers to the extra characteristics of the variables as required. It mainly refers to demographic factors like age, sex, and race. It is very important that researches start their quantitative research with the GAO because it enables them to document their thinking and the factual information about the study (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019).

Quantitative Research is used to quantify the problem by way of generating numerical data or data that can be transformed into usable statistics. It is used to quantify attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and other defined variables – and generalize results from a larger sample population. Quantitative Research uses measurable data to formulate facts and uncover patterns in research. Quantitative data collection methods are much more structured than Qualitative data collection methods. Quantitative data collection methods include various forms of surveys – online surveys, paper surveys, mobile surveys and kiosk surveys, face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, longitudinal studies, website interceptors, online polls, and systematic observations (Defranzo, 2011).

In the long-term care setting, I would use a quantitative research when observing the effectiveness of the use of electronic Medication Administration Records (eMARs). In a research conducted by a group of researchers, the purpose of the research was to map the extent, range, and nature of research on the effectiveness, level of use, and perceptions about electronic medication administration records (eMARs) in long?term care facilities (LTCFs) and identify gaps in current knowledge and priority areas for future research. The study involved a cross-sectional review of relevant literatures. 694 articles were identified, only 34 of the articles met the inclusion criteria. The researchers concluded that further investigation is required to rigorously evaluate the effect of standalone eMAR systems on medication administration errors and patient safety, the extent of eMAR implementation, pharmacists’ perceptions, and cost effectiveness of eMAR systems in LTCF (Fuller, Guirguis, Sadowski, & Makowsky, 2018).

Another area where quantitative research would be applicable is in the LTC use of antipsychotics. The study is aimed at predicting the outcome of a gradual dose reduction (GDR) of an antipsychotic medication and eventual discontinuation in people with schizophrenia and related disorders. The research uses a randomized control trial and there was a long term follow up with the resident and staff who participated in the study (Moncrieff, Lewis, Freemantle, Johnson, Barnes, Morant, Pinfold, Hunter, Kent, Smith, Darton, Horne, Crellin, Cooper, & Priebe, 2019).

Romans 12:2 (ESV) says “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
