Write an essay that discusses the title in the short story “The Parking Lot”

Essay 4

Write an essay with an introduction, body and conclusion on ONE of the following prompts.  At least two quotes are required. Quotes go in the body of a paper to support the topic sentence of the paragraph and, of course, the overall thesis of the paper.   Quotes placed in the intro or the conclusion will not count toward this requirement.

1. In the short story “The Parking Lot,” by Ann Beattie, a married woman takes a lover.  Write an essay that discusses the title.  Why does the author call this story “The Parking Lot?” Consider all the references to the parking lot before answering this question and think about how it relates to the events and characters in the story. The thesis must respond to the above central question clearly.   One body paragraph must explain and discuss the story’s resolution (the ending of the story.)

Requirements:

1) At least five well developed paragraphs (three clear support paragraphs).

2) Summarize the story’s key points in the first body paragraph

3) In the body of the essay, support your points with at least two quotes.

      4) Write in third person point of view.  No YOU, no I or We or Our ect.

      5) Put your name, date, class day and time at the top left.

      6) Type and double space

      7) Use Times New Roman font, 12-point

     8) Write a title at the top of the first page that connects to the essay’s main point.

IMPORTANT:  Essays that do not respond to the prompt will fail automatically.
