Spend some time comparing and contrasting field research and existing data methods
I would like you to spend some time comparing and contrasting the two methods we covered this week – field research and existing data. In your response, compare and contrast the two methods in terms of:
- What types of criminal justice research questions would each method be most suitable to answer?
- Of the purposes of research (exploration, description, explanation and application) discussed in Module One, what purposes is each method best suited for and why? If there are purposes that cannot be addressed by either method, discuss why this is the case.
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of each method? Fr you can go deeply undercover from being a researcher and get a full understanding
- Discuss the issues of measurement reliability and validity as well as generalizability for each method. Be specific in your discussion (e.g. do not just say “X method is high in reliability) – discuss what factors inherent in the methods impact the reliability, validity and generalizability of the measurement approach and in what way.
