The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to conduct a job analysis, write the job description and then, examine how the position was filled by you. Select a job you previously held or your current job for this paper. Support your analysis with a minimum of 3 academic sources including two or more scholarly journal articles.
Writing Your Own Job Description and Staffing Your Job

Content Company Overview:

Overview selected company; include the company background, products and/or services, sales, and number of employees. Briefly describe how your job fits into the organizational structure.

Job Analysis:

Job analysis is defined as the process of studying jobs in order to gather, synthesize and report information about job content, and is then used to write a job description.
Using the job, you selected, conduct a job requirements job analysis, and then write your job description. Include responses to the following questions:

Methods: What methods did you use (prior information, observation, interviews, task questionnaires, committee, combination of these), and how did you use them?

Sources: What sources did you use (job analyst, job incumbent, supervisor, SMEs, or combination of these), and exactly how did you use them?

Job Requirements Job Analysis:

How did you go about gathering, synthesizing, and reporting the information? Reference Exhibit 4.11 for an example.

Job Description:

Heading: Include job title, reporting relationship (by position, not individual), hours or shifts, and the likelihood of overtime or weekend work.

Objective of the Job: List the general responsibilities and descriptions of key tasks and their purpose, relationships with customers, coworkers, and others, and the results expected of incumbent employees.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Identify tasks that comprise about 90 to 95 percent of the work done and list tasks in order of the time consumed (or, sometimes, in order of importance). The first task listed should be the most important or time-consuming one, and so on. List what must be performed and accomplished.

Qualifications: State the KSAOs (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics) for entry into this job.

Special Demands: Include any extraordinary conditions applicable to the job (for example, heavy lifting, exposure to temperature extremes, prolonged standing, or travel).

Staffing Your Job: Use the staffing components model (Exhibit 1.5) to help you think through and describe the staffing process that led to your getting hired for the job. Trace and describe the process

(1) from your own perspective as a job applicant, and

(2) from the organization’s perspective.

Recruitment: Why did you identify and seek out this job with this organization? How did you try to make yourself attractive to the organization?

Selection: How did you gather information about the job’s requirements and rewards? How did you judge your own KSAOs and needs relative to the requirements and rewards?

Employment: Why did you decide to continue on in the staffing process, rather than drop out of it? Why did you decide to accept the job offer? What were the pluses and minuses of the job?
*Organization Perspective
Respond to the following even if you are unsure of the answers

Recruitment: How did the organization identify you as a job applicant? How did the organization make the job attractive to you?

Selection: What techniques (application blank, interview, etc.) did the organization use to gather KSAOs
information about you?
How did the organization evaluate this information? What did it see as your strong and weak
points, KSAO-wise?

Employment: Why did the organization continue to pursue you as an applicant, rather than reject you from
further consideration? What was the job offer process like? Did you receive a verbal or written offer (or both)? Who
made the offer? What was the content of the offer?

Insights: Identify 3 significant insights gained from these analyses and link them to course concepts.
