IMC 302: Dantico / Spring 2015. Blog Post and Pitch letter

Part 1: Blog Post:

Study the writing style and publication calendar for one of the blogs mentioned below. Be sure to analyze topics covered and the voice and tone of the blog. Is there a particular format that the blog likes to use? Who typically writes the posts? Research the editor or the main voices behind the blog, and determine whether there is a submission process for guest posts.
websites / blogs:
Whole Foods: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/blog/whole-story
Based on the topics below, select a topic that is likely to be covered by the blog you studied. Write a timely blog post (500-750 words, required) based on that topic. Be sure to write in the style (voice, tone) of the blog that you’re targeting, and be sure to write a catchy, SEO-friendly headline. Cite any and all sources used, including images.
Blog topic:
Chicago’s love affair with artisan and craft beer

Part 2: Pitch Letter

Once your blog post is in final form, draft a pitch letter to one of the main contacts at the blog you select. Address the letter to the blog’s general inquiry email address, if that’s all you can find. Often, a blog will only publish a standard contact form. If that’s the case, be sure to explain your choice. Explain who you are and that you have written a blog post that fits their editorial agenda. Pitch your post as a guest submission on the blog, including why your post will generate traffic and be of interest to the readers.
