For example, you can analyze greeting cards; picture books; postcards, billboards, one week’s worth of news stories; fairy tales; movies such as Harry Potter; Hunger Games or the Twilight series; sports films, soap operas; sitcom shows, films about teachers or any other TV shows you watch or even the CNN news; curriculum – textbooks read by your child; popular novels; toy store aisles; video games; technology; gendered use of social media etc. for gender bias, stereotypes, the ways in which gender stereotypes are broken or how some newer books go beyond the gender binary or gender lessons that we can learn. Remember that gender is always intersecting with race, class and sexuality and disability and nationality to name a few. So while you may be bringing gender to the forefront, it may be difficult to separate it from other categories of analysis. Think about ways in which gender has not been examined as well.

How motivated are you to analyze the book, pictures, stories etc.?  What are you interested in learning that you do not already know? If you had to tell someone about this project, what would you say if they asked you: “What exactly are you going to examine and why?”  Begin collecting your materials for analysis and put it in one place. Create a schedule/ timeline to watch, read for analysis. Find 3- 5 scholarly or non-scholarly articles or a book that relates to what you are interested in. Please provide the complete citation of the articles and if they are online, please include a link to the articles.
    4. For WEEK ONE (OPTION B): Write a few paragraphs or no more than one page on your choice of topic. What interests you about the topic? How would you explore the topic? Think of a big question or two that you want to explore in your paper that you don’t know the answer to as yet. What method will you choose to locate articles/ books for your paper?
