There is sexism in the United States; this is thoroughly documented and unquestionable. Women encounter structural barriers due to the patriarchy that shapes our society that men do not face. However, this does not mean that gender roles are only problematic for women. Yes, women are generally seen as inferior and less able than men, however, there is also what I call “the cult of masculinity“, that is harmful for many boys and men in our society. What might I mean by this? In this discussion think about gender roles as they exist in US society today. What are they? How have they changed? How are they problematic?
