While the recruiting functions of domestic human resource management (DHRM) and international human resource management (IHRM) are very similar, the main difference is their scope of work regarding a particular region. Since IHRM employs people from multiple countries, they have to deal with the problems of functioning across different cultures (Multiplier). In addition, they have to deal with time zones and country laws on a recurring basis, something a DHRM would never have to deal in their daily work routines.

The relationship between a multinational firm’s international human resource strategy and its strategic business imperative is coexistence because, in order to successfully overcome to challenges of globalization, companies need to focus on developing a strategic plan. With all the pressure from stakeholders to manage responsibly and be profitable, many multinational corporations are developing what is called total responsibility management (TRM) systems approaches for managing their responsibilities to stakeholders and the natural environment (Waddock, Bodwell & Graves, 2002).
