Purpose of Assignment:
To identify and describe some of the social criticisms and ethical
considerations in Marketing. For example, some topics might include: marketing to children, deceptive practices (ie: deceptive pricing or promotion, emotional exploitation (think the Pepsi Black lives matter controversy) excessive markups, high pressure selling, cultural pollution, reduced competition through acquisitions of other companies, planned obsolescence, negative political ad campaigns etc). You can also consider the world of digital marketing (search engines and/or social media) and some of the privacy concerns and practices such as Google which keeps detailed data on your every move including searched websites, videos watch on YouTube, ads clicked and shopping, email sent and received with Gmail, etc.).
Select 1-3 topics which interest you and do some library research in the University library. You should discuss why you think the topics you selected are important. Be sure to provide specific example of companies that have engaged in some of these practices.
