Nonproduction expenses such as marketing, research and development, and general administrative costs can play an important role in a company’s ability to meet long-term goals. Discuss how the budgets for each of these costs contribute to the company’s success. Which do you think plays the greatest role and why Marketing expense (typically called selling expense on an income statement), R&D, and administration are categories of expenses that are also called “operating expenses.”  They are called non-production expenses because their staff and their activities occur outside the factory setting. Please review your online lecture and this week’s text chapters before you dig into this discussion. Note that each of these areas in this discussion will have a separate department expense budget. Please speak to each of these three areas separately in your posts, as their functions are very different.
