Art Critique Instructions/ Out Of Class Experiences
One of the goals of ART 103, Introduction to Visual Arts, is for all students to attend and reflect upon art experiences outside of the classroom setting. It is important for students to experience and view “Real” visual art in authentic and meaningful ways as often as possible to achieve this goal. This
semester, all students are required to write 4 Art Critique Papers. Each event will be documented by a written critique of the event completed by the student. The critique will follow the format below:
*All critiques must be typed, double spaced, and submitted in the
Journal Titled “Art Critique.” If there is a brochure or
handout, you should photograph it and attach it along with your
written journal entry. If allowed to do so, you should
also take a photograph of the artwork you will be writing about and
submit it along with your paper.

Paragraph 2: Description of the Artwork (10 Points) Identify one
artwork to discuss/critique. This will include artist,
title, media, subject matter, style, and approximate dimensions of the
artwork. The student will then give a detailed
description of the artwork stating only FACTS and no OPINIONS. The
reader should be able to form a mental image of
the artwork from this description.
