Connection between CO2 Emissions and Economic Growth: A case of Beijing Province, China
Abstract
This paper evaluates the connection between carbon dioxide emissions (the major contributor to the greenhouse effect) and economic growth, in Beijing. EKC (Environmental Kuznets Curve) model was used for the time series data for the duration between 1990 and 2010. The findings indicate that there is N-shaped connection between growth in economy and CO2
emissions. Therefore, these results fail to support EKC hypothesis characterized by an inverted U-shaped curve.
