Assignment 1: Draft of Counselling Integration Report.
Developing the draft report provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their integration of key learnings in counselling developed over the course, to critically evaluate the experience, and to gain feedback on the report at a formative stage. This assignment facilitates the articulation of students’ understanding of counselling as a discipline, their capacity for reflective practice, and their identification of the links between personal and professional selves in the consolidation of their professional identity. Students will receive feedback on the draft report that will contribute to a revision of the final integration report.
Process:
Students are to review their completed assessments from core counselling units in Years one, two and three of the course.
Select samples from your completed assessments that illustrate:
a. your development of knowledge of counselling theories and models over the course;
b. your development of assessment and counselling skills and their application in practice;
c. Your development of ethical decision making skills.
As part of the process of reflecting on your learning in the course at a Meta level, identify the major conceptual themes for years 1, 2 and 3 of the course.
Write a 1,800 word report that integrates the selected assessment samples and course themes, using a reflexive writing approach to document your reflections on the learning journey, this should be in first person.
In the final section, write an overarching statement of your understanding of counselling as a discipline, and your developing professional identity as a counsellor. Academic references are to be used to support the report.
Your draft report will need to show:
Demonstration of integration of key learnings developed in the course
Samples of assessments from core units integrated into the report to demonstrate understanding of counselling theories, application of counselling skills in practice, and ethical decision making.
Articulation of your understanding of counselling as a discipline
Evidence of reflexive writing and reflective practice throughout the report
Demonstration of consolidated professional identity with integration between personal and professional parts of self-demonstrated
