Mr. and Mrs. Keller have been married for 50 years. they are both 85 years old. Mrs. Keller was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Mr. Keller states that his wife is able to perform most adls, and he wants to keep his wife safe and independently functioning in their home as long as possible. at a doctor’s appointment Mr. Keller states that his wife has a poor appetite and she really does not want to get up in the morning. her BMI is 28. she is often not steady on her feet and he worries that she may fall. both are receiving social security but are living on a fixed income in a 2nd floor apartment. he stated that last week she was trying to cook and left the stove turned on and almost started a fire in the kitchen. their two adult children live in another state and visit a few times a year. Mr. Keller asks the nurse if there is a cure for his wife’s illness. Mr. Keller states that Mrs. Keller occasionally has difficulty finding the correct words to use when she is communicating. he also states that she seems depressed most of the time and has become less talkative over the past few months. Mrs. Keller is otherwise healthy and does not take any medications. DEVELOP A CARE PLAN FOR MRS. KELLER that addresses priorities of care for this Alzheimer’s patient.
