You will develop a 30 minute video recording demonstrating counselling skills and write a 2,500 word critical reflection. To complete this task, you will be provided with a hypothetical case scenario to apply one of the following counselling approaches to:
- Motivational Interviewing.
- Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
You will make a 30 minute video recording of your counselling session with the ‘client’ in the case study utilising one of the counselling approaches listed above. The focus of the video should be on you as the ‘counsellor’. You may use a friend or family member to play the role of the ‘client’. Please do not use a real client for this video. On completion of the recording you will then undertake a written self-critique of your counselling session, followed by a critical reflection on how you could have used the other two counselling approaches.
Criteria & Marking:
Length: 30 minute video + 2,500 words written component.
1. Use of the chosen approach to working with the client. ( /20 marks)
2. In-depth self-critique of the counselling session focusing on you in the role of the practitioner. ( /25 marks)
3. Critical discussion about how you could have used the two other counselling approaches in this session. ( /15 marks)
4. Inclusion of examples to support your self-evaluation of the session and critical discussion of the other two approaches (including time codes and/or quotes). ( /15 marks)
5. Use of evidence-based literature for the self-critique and critical discussion of the other two approaches. ( /15 marks)
6. Demonstrates highly developed writing skills including appropriate form, structure, language, and use of citations and referencing consistent with APA 6th style guidelines. ( /10 marks).
