The social policy I care about are: vulnerabilities in child care.
Guiding questions:
● What are your intentions for this piece?
● Who are you writing for? Who’s your audience? (parents, teachers, daycare administrators )
● Do you want to educate, inform, and/or convince your reader to take X, Y, Z actions? Are there other objectives or goals? (I chose educate and inform)
● Rationale for those X, Y, Z actions? (e.g., academic research, evidenced-based knowledge, etc.) Why should people pursue X, Y, Z actions?
● How does your social issue of interest impact various marginalized communities?
● Explore policy implications of the chosen topic in regard to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
The piece must be well-written and research with at least 4 pieces of academic literature (with hyperlinks attached to academic studies or other reputable sources), compelling, and interesting – ask yourself, would I forward this piece to my friends or post it on my social media feed?
