Question 1
The sort of things that are the building blocks of Systems in Organization start with the recognition of a need which, coupled with an awareness of the procedures and devices that can resolve that need, leads to a solution. In the first exercise which you were asked to start relatively blind, we are looking at an emerging technology and seeing what we might wish that technology to do. In this case it is something called “the Internet of Things.” Describe a thing you’d like to see on the Internet and suggest it. Send your description to me via email before our first class meeting. What this Internet of things (IoT) is will evolve over the next few years and
become as commonplace as the “Smart Phone” which, a few years ago, didn’t exist and now is well understood and ubiquitous. Moreover, we all know what it means for a phone to be smart.

There is nothing new under the sun. You will hear this cited often in our discussions and it is an important thing to remember. The sort of problems we encounter in our efforts to manage the information of commerce are not unique nor of recent origin, for the most part. People have defrauded one another for years and information critical to the business enterprise has been compromised. However, the ability of an individual to have a large impact from what he or she might do as a single actor is greatly enhanced in modern times. Jesse James could rob one bank at a time; today’s Jesses can rob hundreds. The purpose of this part of the first warm-‐up exercise is to see if what you identified in the first part of the effort is unique or if it has actually occurred to others since the issue it resolves is felt more widely that just by you. Use the resources you have, and possibly will identify for use in the next exercise, to see how unique is your idea of what thing to add to the Internet. As soon as you have enough information to say whether and by how much your idea is unique, email the results of your labor to me. (Find the rest of the questions in the attached document).
