What is the psychology behind why people believe in religion

I am going to pose the question, “What is the psychology behind why people believe in religion?” I am only looking at what goes on in a person’s brain that makes them choose faith, not whether religion is real or not. I am going to use sources that I learned from psychology classes I have taken at CSULB and the online library to find my resources for this topic.
I’m also going to use family members and public figures as examples for certain points. My research will go into depth on a person’s experiences, inner conflict, fears, and adolescence as all major characteristics on why humans believe in religion. I will also look at factors that show why people choose not to believe in religion. My research paper is going to be titled, “The Psychology Behind Faith; Why Some Believe… and Some Don’t.” Thank you.
